What we do
The Learning By Doing Woodwork Room (Est. 1989) is an Education Centre (Based in Melbourne, Australia) that delivers creative and practical woodwork, ‘electrix’, science and technology developmental programs for “children” aged 4 – 14 and up to 94.
Our mobile work vans bring a “Workshop with the lot” directly to your school / home. (woodwork benches, saws, hammers, wood, materials etc). Children will complete the workshops with – not only a wooden model that they built, but also a strong grounding in safety, a boost in self-confidence (“I can do it!”), a new understanding of recycling and more.
Jonathan Levin (Founding Director) – a qualified art, craft and technology teacher with over 30 years teaching experience, founded the Education Centre after identifying the need for ‘hands on’ woodwork and technology programs in Primary schools.
“Since 1989 we have worked in over 450 schools all over Victoria, with well in excess of 1 million children having taken home a wooden model / toy that THEY built. (That’s a lot of very happy smiling faces!) We deliver programs for Schools / organizations and private families. We are fully insured, with an impeccable safety record.”
Recreational Programs
When not delivering programs in schools – during term, we offer specialized programs in the school holidays, afterschool – “The Young Inventors”, Woodwork Birthday Parties, gardening and sustainability, private tuition and more.
Educational Programs
Our creative woodworking, science and “electronix” workshops (STEM) provide a unique opportunity for children from Kinder through to year 9 and beyond, to learn, grow, discover and experiment in a fully supervised and safe (100% hand’s on) program.
Children discover the joy, excitement and satisfaction of “Learning by Doing”. Teachers are required to ‘sit back, relax and enjoy (build a model too, if you choose).
